Labor day I will be laboring on my Focus. Replacing the front & rear brakes, front & rear sway bar links & bushings. This is my biggest foray in to car repairs yet, with the help of YouTube & Chiltons. If I’m feeling really industrious, maybe I’ll do the rear shocks too. If you listen really carefully on Saturday afternoon, you may hear the soft echoes of me swearing at the rear brake hub when it refuses to come off.

I hope you have rear discs and not drums at the back :p

(of course, with the Focus, there are a bunch of rear disc conversion kits on ebay). I HATE drum brakes! It’s almost easier to convert them to discs than it is to just replace the drum and shoes.

What kind of pads and rotors did you get?

You should’ve waited until tomorrow to buy the shocks, because Monroe is doing their buy-3-get-1 rebate. The rear shocks should be easy, and the front struts are easy if you get quick struts.

Good luck!

If you are talking about the rear discs / rotors and you have new ones, get a BFH and smack them off.

If you are just replacing the pads have a rubber headed mallet on hand if you need to take the discs off for some reason.

New rotors & pads up front and drums, shoes & wheel cylinders at the back. I’m going all the way, assuming the US Postal service delivers by Saturday. I am well supplied with many types of hammer like objects.
